Call for Nominations: The 2020 Top 10 Clinical Research Achievement Awards

WASHINGTON, D.C.—The Clinical Research Forum is pleased to announce the call for nominations for the Annual Top 10 Clinical Research Achievement Awards.

The Top 10 Clinical Research Achievement Awards recognize outstanding achievements in clinical research from across the nation. The awards honor major advances in the biomedical field resulting from the nation’s investment in health and welfare.

Research studies eligible for nomination must be focused on human disease and/or human physiology. Projects must have been conducted at a U.S. institution and published in a peer-reviewed journal between January 1, 2019 and December 31, 2019.  

The nominations deadline is Monday, November 18, 2019. A letter or e-mail from a peer-reviewed journal confirming a publication date prior to January 1 is acceptable.

The Top 10 Clinical Research Achievement Awards will take place Tuesday, April 14, 2020, at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. Winners will also present at Translational Science 2019 in Washington D.C., April 15-17, 2020, and meet with members of Congress to discuss continued investment in clinical research.

Three of the studies will receive additional recognition and cash awards in addition to the honor of recognition as one of the Top 10 clinical research achievements for 2020.

·         Herbert Pardes Clinical Research Excellence Award - $7,500 is awarded to the one study that best exemplifies a high degree of innovation and creativity, advances science, and has an impact upon human disease.

·         The Distinguished Clinical Research Achievement Award - $5,000 is awarded to two studies that show creativity, innovation, or a novel approach that demonstrates an immediate impact on the health and well-being of patients.

NOMINATIONS DEADLINE: NOVEMBER 18, 2019

ELIGIBLITY CRITERIA:

·         Published in a peer-reviewed journal between January 1, 2019 – December 31, 2019

·         Performed at a U.S. institution

·         Team representative must attend CR Forum Top 10 Event (April 14, 2020) as well as the Translational Science Annual Meeting (April 15-17, 2020) in Washington, DC, to receive the award in person, participate in congressional visits, and present/share research findings.

 Note: Studies that involve more than one institution are eligible. Only one nomination letter is necessary. 

ELIGIBLE RESEARCH:

·         Studies utilizing human cells or tissues or human subjects only

·         Patient-oriented research

o   Mechanisms of human disease

o   Therapeutic interventions

o   Clinical trials

o   Development of new technologies

·         Epidemiological & behavioral studies

·         Outcomes & health services projects

·         Human physiology studies

 

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

Q:        What if my paper is being published before December 31, 2019 but after the nominations deadline?

A:         You can submit a letter or e-mail from the journal confirming the publication date, along with a PDF of the final paper, instead of the published paper.

 

Q:        Is only the principal investigator eligible for nomination?

A:         No, it’s the team that is recognized. The name and contact information of the PI is required, if they are not the one being nominated as the team representative. 

 

Q:        If the study involves more than one institution, do letters need to be submitted from all of them?

A:         No, one letter of nomination is sufficient. 

Q:        Can only Clinical Research Forum member institutions submit a nomination?

A:         No, nominations from all U.S. based institutions are accepted.
